Buenos Aires, December 3, 2024 – In early 2023, La Rural's IT department began devising a Project to update and implement a new data network with the goal of optimizing service quality across all sectors of the property, featuring a more stable, faster, and secure infrastructure.
With a investment of over USD 1 million, the project materialized in just 90 days (between April and July 2024) just in time for the inauguration of the Rural Exhibition, one of the most important events of the year, visited by more than 1.5 million people.
From a technical standpoint, a high-speed network with a 10 Gbps capacity was implemented, serving as the backbone for the entire network, covering enclosed and outdoor areas. In the covered pavilions, copper cables were replaced with fiber optics, partly utilizing existing conduit.
For outdoor areas, Furukawa's Laserway solution with GPON technology was used, ideal for large spaces and distances. Terminals were installed in cabinets that connect more than 270 points, optimizing speed, reach, and energy consumption.
The result was a redundant network, multiplying the number of nodes per pavilion and installing connectivity points, previously nonexistent, in the open air. More than 9 km of fiber optic cable were laid, achieving a scalable network prepared for future upgrades.
Thanks to this technological innovation, La Rural can now provide a Enhanced experience for exhibitors and attendees, minimizing connection drops, increasing data transmission speed, and ensuring reliable connectivity at any event and in all spaces of the venue.
Aware of the environmental impact and in line with the sustainable commitments that the institution has been promoting for decades, Recyclable and low-impact materials were used., including Furukawa Green line patch cords, made with recyclable materials.
“We always try to reuse everything that was already installed on the property. For example, La Rural provided telephone service to exhibitors for a long time, so the grounds had conduits that were no longer in use. This allowed us to take advantage of those conduits to deploy the new fiber. It was undoubtedly an important factor in the project's completion in terms of costs and in line with the company's vision and sustainability policy.” Javier Pascolini, IT Manager at La Rural.
Furthermore, in relation to the approach of improving the service offering, Pascolini stated that: “Several issues drove the project, but they all relate to serving exhibitors and clients in places where we didn't have connectivity.
