The official inauguration of the XIV International Oil and Gas Exhibition, the region's premier industry event, took place. Covering a total area of over 35,000 m2, more than 20,000 industry professionals are expected to attend. Within the framework of the exhibition, the 5th Latin American Congress and 7th National Congress on Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment in the Oil and Gas Industry will also be held.
At the inaugural ceremony, the President of IAPG, Eng. Ernesto A. López Anadón, stated: “The industry has shown its potential and commitment during the pandemic and in recent years. Today, it has become a net export project. The sector has increased its productivity and efficiency, has built oil infrastructure, and the state contributed to gas infrastructure with the construction of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline. All policies align with the enormous potential of hydrocarbon resources in the country and the significant contribution that the activity can make to employment and the macroeconomy. It is substantial that political forces agree on conditions to ensure that the rules of the game are maintained over time. What we need for this export project to gain momentum is long-term stability. This, ultimately, is what will make the industry grow and benefit the country.”.
In her turn, the Secretary of Energy of the Nation, Flavia Royón, reviewed the sector's performance over the past year, the situation of the hydrocarbon industry in the last year, and its future challenges. In this regard, she highlighted the commitment, bravery, and professionalism of the companies in the sector and stated: “For this year, a slightly positive energy balance of USD 100 million is expected, and for 2024, Argentina's energy balance is expected to be positive at USD 3.8 billion. We want to recognize the efforts of the companies, the exhibitors, and the success of AOG Expo 2023, which demonstrates the industry's will and commitment. This sector is key to achieving the macroeconomic stability that will allow Argentina to take off and grow.”.
On the first day of AOG Expo 2023, the 7th edition of “Young Oil & Gas Professionals: Adding energy for the future“ was held. With the participation of more than 800 young professionals, panels on various topics of interest to those starting in the industry were presented, focusing on midstream, applied technologies, diversity and labor insertion, and upstream. The workshop “Carbon Management” was also developed, organized and promoted by the National Secretariat of Energy and IAPG. The focus was on the importance of generating carbon capture (CCS) projects in our country to boost the industry within an energy transition framework.
In the coming days, the "Encuentro con los CEOs" (Meet the CEOs) cycle will take place, bringing together the main directors of companies leading the hydrocarbon industry. Additionally, the 5th Latin American and 7th National Congress on Safety, Occupational Health, and Environment in the Oil and Gas Industry will be held, organized by the IAPG's Safety, Health, and Environment Commission.
The 14th edition of AOG Expo is taking place until September 14, 2023, at La Rural Exhibition Center in Buenos Aires.
